Die archäobotanische, archäologische und ethnographische Beiträge werden über die Ernährung sowie den wirtschaftlichen und kulturellen Hintergrund der Epoche, in der die neue Kulturpflanze – die Rispenhirse (Panicum miliaceum) – aus Asien in Europa eingeführt wurde, präsentiert. Dabei werden auch neue Ergebnisse der Anwendung modernster Methoden (z.B. molekularbiologische Analysen) vorstellen, anhand derer Hirsekonsum und Speisereste der Hirse in archäologischen Kontexten nachgewiesen wird. Außerdem werden die agronomischen und technologischen Aspekte des Hirseanbaus diskutieren. //
The archaeobotanists, archaeological scientists, ethnographers will talk about the dietary, economic and cultural context of the period in which the new crop, broomcorn millet (Panicum miliaceum), was introduced in Europe from eastern Asia. They will also present new results of the application of state-of-the-art methods (such as biomolecular analysis) that trace millet consumption and millet meals in archaeological deposits, and will discuss the agronomic and technological aspects of millet cultivation.
